A 21st Birthday Gift

One of our dear grand-daughters has just had her 21st birthday and I decided it was time for a new quilt for her. She is an outdoorsy kinda girl, so I thought no frilly light colors for her. Her and her partner also live with their doggy child, so I thought something rustic would work.

I purchased some flannel plaids and using the Oh My Stars idea from Pat Sloan, I made this quilt. I cut my squares bigger than Pat's pattern and also made the quilt quite a bit larger ( of course :)

The quilt measured approx. 74"square

I cut my squares 6.5" Then worked out the sizes for my triangles.

Below is some of the back of the quilt.

Quilted on my 710 domestic Bernina.

After backing the quilt with some older flannel I had in my stash, and using bamboo batting, I found the quilt was quite heavy, but very cuddly.

I used plain cotton for the star points and the binding.

Thanks for dropping by

Great quilt, very rustic and outdoorsy! Isn't it fun to make something with larger pieces? Happy stitching!

This is the perfect design for an outdoor girl! I've made a flannel quilt only once, and it was a love-hate relationship. Didn't care for the loose weave, but loved how it turned out. You did a great job with the design, the size (love big quilts!), and the quilting. I bet she loved it. You're a wonderful grandmother.
