A 21st Birthday Gift

One of our dear grand-daughters has just had her 21st birthday and I decided it was time for a new quilt for her. She is an outdoorsy kinda girl, so I thought no frilly light colors for her. Her and her partner also live with their doggy child, so I thought something rustic would work.

I purchased some flannel plaids and using the Oh My Stars idea from Pat Sloan, I made this quilt. I cut my squares bigger than Pat's pattern and also made the quilt quite a bit larger ( of course :)

The quilt measured approx. 74"square

I cut my squares 6.5" Then worked out the sizes for my triangles.

Below is some of the back of the quilt.

Quilted on my 710 domestic Bernina.

After backing the quilt with some older flannel I had in my stash, and using bamboo batting, I found the quilt was quite heavy, but very cuddly.

I used plain cotton for the star points and the binding.

A bit of a Catchup

A few things I have made since I last posted. I had a 50th birthday gift to make.

My quilting is improving slowly, and I love doing it on my machine. I have come to realise that it doesn't have to be perfect, to look OK!

This is the back of the quilt, which was lap size.

I have also taken up knitting again.  In March & April, two of my grand-daughters

Had baby girls 3 weeks apart.

I hope some of you see this and thanks for dropping by.
